Police chief 'offered cop a promotion in exchange for sleeping with his wife and underage daughter'

A New Jersey police officer is claiming that his boss promised to promote him if he allowed him to sleep with his wife and underage daughter.

The officer with the Vineland Police Department filed a complaint with the city solicitor against Chief Rudy Beu two years ago, but he claims that nothing has been done about the matter since that time.

Beu, however, says that the complaint by the officer is retaliation.

'Although I am not at liberty to make any specific comments, I can tell you that there are two sides to every story,' Beu told NJ Advance Media.

'This is a retaliatory action taken against myself and certain command staff members for reasons I cannot discuss at this time.'

The officer has insisted on remaining anonymous due to what he says is his fear of retaliation.

He first reported the allegation to Richard Tonetta, Vineland's solicitor general, in September 2017 - five months after it was said to have taken place.

According to the officer, he and his wife were watching a Philadelphia Phillies baseball game at McFadden's Sports Bar just outside Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia on April 7, 2017.

The officer and his wife were at the bar with friends. It just so happened that the chief of police, Beu, was there as well, according to the officer.

Beu is alleged to have told the officer that he would promote him if he could leave with his wife.

The officer says Beu and another high-ranking cop asked his wife what assets he had that would help him be promoted.

At this point, Beu is alleged to have pointed up and down his wife's body.

'She felt very uncomfortable, and that is when she walked away,' the officer said.

A few days later, Beu is alleged to have made a similar comment to the officer, promising that he would promote him over another officer who was in line for the position.

In August, the officer told the chief he didn't think it was fair to offer a promotion when there were no open positions available

I was about to leave, and he said, 'Well if I could have your wife',' the officer said.

'As I go out the door, he says 'How about your daughter?' and he starts laughing.'

The officer said that he began walking toward his truck which was parked outside of the department.

His son, a teenager, and his daughter, who was under 13 years old at the time, were waiting for him in the truck.

That's when the police chief followed the officer to his truck and yelled to his children that he was going to promote their father, it is alleged.

The officer then met a few weeks later with representatives of the police union in Vineland.

The union recommended that the officer file a complaint with Tonetta, the city solicitor.

During his meeting, the officer says Tonetta referred to Beu as 'unprofessional.'

'(Tonetta) said the chief was up here the other day making rude comments, sexual comments about your wife and about promotions and we had to tell him to knock it the f*** off,' the officer said.

Tonetta emailed NJ Advance Media, saying that an investigation was launched into the officer's complaint but nothing came of it.

Neither the Cumberland County Prosecutor's Office or the Vineland mayor's office agreed to comment on the story.
